Live at Noon on WCNY-FM: Capitolfest in Rome, NY, August 10-12
Capitolfest, a festival of vintage sound and silent films at the Capitol Theatre in Rome, NY, is ten years old this summer. This year’s festival takes place August 10th through August 12th. If you know film, you know that silent films were far from silent. Every theater had either a small ensemble or at least a pianist to accompany the film. And then there were the theaters that had an organ, with quite literally all the bells and whistles to make the movie experience “pop!” The Capitol in Rome still has the original 1928 Möller organ that came with the theater and will be played this weekend by some of America’s finest theater organ performers. Theater Director Art Pierce and Director of Development Kylie Pierce joined me “Live at Noon” to chat about Capitolfest. Here is the interview:
